Delhi Cabinet Approves Barapullah III and MB Road Elevated Corridors

The government on Monday approved two major road infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the capital, including the long-pending Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor and a six-lane elevated corridor on MB Road.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat.

According to officials, the Cabinet cleared a revised cost of Rs 1,635.03 crore for the Barapullah Phase III elevated road, which will run over the Barapullah drain and connect Sarai Kale Khan with Mayur Vihar. Once completed, the corridor will provide signal-free connectivity between East Delhi and South Delhi, allowing commuters to travel directly from Mayur Vihar to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

Officials said the project is expected to ease congestion around Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road, the DND Flyway and NH-24, and reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters. The government has set a target of completing the project by June 30.

The CM said delays in the project during the previous government’s tenure would be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Branch, Delhi, to determine the reasons behind the hold-up.
