Ankle cuffs on criminals in Odisha, soon a reality!
Bhubaneswar: Ankle cuffs on criminals in Odisha, might soon be a reality. The Jail DG has proposed to Parliamentary Affairs Committee for the same.
Jail DG proposed to Parliamentary Affairs Committee that prisoners will be tracked by GPS (Global Positioning System) bands on their ankles.
If the permission is given for ankle cuffs on criminals in Odisha, the state will be the first ever state in India to implement this.
The GPS trackers will be attached to the ankles of undertrials. It will be easy to monitor the activities of habitual offenders, the DG informed.
The Jail DG IPS Manoj Chabra further said that, this GPS tracker will be attached to a prisoner’s ankle for a specified period of time.
It is worth mentioning that if anyone tries to destroy it or remove it an alarm will immediately be sounded to the police. Detailed reports awaited in this regard.
