He had joined Chintadripet police station as a head constable three months ago and was the driver of Inspector (Crime) Balasubramaniam.
Chandrashekhar last came to work on the night of 17 December, after which he took two days leave. During the early hours of 18 December, Sathiyavedu police secured 15 people carrying about three tonnes of red sandalwood in a truck.
“His duty ended at 10 pm and it seems he was at Sathiyavedu police limits within four hours, where he was caught by a special team of Chittoor district police,” an officer said.
Chandrashekhar and his associates were booked under IPC sections including robbery, causing hurt and criminal intimidation as well as violation of AP Forest Act, AP Forest Amendment Act and AP Forest Produce Transit Rules Act.
