CHENNAI: Sharvanika A S, at just eight years of age, has emerged champion in three formats of the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2023 held in Al Ain, UAE.
She won silver medals in the U-8 Classical category, gold medals in the U-8 Rapid category and U-8 Blitz category. Lauding Sharwanika on this achievement, Grandmaster V Vishnu Prasanna, Chief Coach, Hatsun Chess Academy, said, “Sharwanika is extremely ambitious. Due to her never-say-die attitude and efforts, she has been consistently performing well in every tournament. We are happy to see our players winning medals in international chess tournaments year after year. We will continue to show our patronage towards the game and train more players and help them reach greater heights.”
42 players from different age groups participated in the 25th Asian Youth Chess Tournament. Organized by FIDE and the UAE Chess Foundation, players from 21 countries competed against each other for the prestigious title. The tournament, which started on December 13, 2023, ended on December 22.
