New Delhi. BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain were stopped at the Delhi International Airport in view of the lookout circular issued against them over alleged fraud in the fintech company.
The couple were on their way to New York on a holiday when they were stopped at the airport on the basis of a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police. The EOW is probing complaints of payments made to fake HR consulting units in BharatPe allegedly run by Grover and his family.
He is also accused of using old dated invoices. Grover confirmed the stop at the airport in a post on ‘X’. However, he said that after the FIR was registered in this matter in May, he did not receive any letter or summons from the EOW till 8 am on November 17.
He said, “I was going to America from 16 to 23 November.” Grover wrote, “On immigration they said that LOC is imposed sir. Will let you know after investigating with EOW. I felt strange because I have traveled abroad four times since the FIR was filed in May.
There was never any problem and I was not summoned even once,” he said. Meanwhile, the flight took off and the EOW asked the Immigration to allow the two men to return home, he said. Grover said, “This morning the EOW summons reached home. Will cooperate as always.
According to sources, Grover had protested when the couple was stopped at the airport, while Grover himself said that ‘there was no drama’. The EOW had filed an FIR in May against Grover, his wife Madhuri and family members Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain and Shwetank Jain. The case was registered following a complaint by BharatPe for alleged fraud of Rs 81 crore.
