Assam BJP leader suicide case: One more suspect surrenders
Guwahati (IANS). Diban Deka, the second suspect in the death of BJP Kisan Morcha secretary Indrani Tehbildar in Assam and former BJP leader, surrendered before the police on Friday.
Diban Deka came to the Chandmari police station and presented himself before the officials, a senior police officer said.
According to police sources, Deka had gone into hiding since the situation became public. He has been accused of releasing private photographs of Indrani Tehbildar, which eventually led to her death.
He surrendered after the telephonic conversation between Indrani and Diban went viral. Deka is also accused of disclosing the audio of a call between Indrani and one Rhea.
Significantly, Deka was earlier also an accused in the Police Recruitment Examination scam and was in jail for a long time. He was also expelled from the party.
Meanwhile, senior BJP MLA Siddharth Bhattacharya denied any involvement in the alleged suicide of Indrani Tehbildar and urged the state unit president to probe the matter thoroughly.
In a viral telephone conversation, Bhattacharya was cited as the reason for the intimate photographs of Indrani and Anurag Chaliha going viral.
In a letter to state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, Bhattacharya wrote, “My name has been mysteriously mentioned time and again in the case of suicide of a party worker. In some telephonic conversations, some people have taken my name without any connection with the case.
He emphasized that the party must ensure a thorough investigation of the situation after being told about it.
On the other hand, the main accused Anurag Chaliha, who was earlier arrested for abetting the tehsildar to commit suicide, told the police that Abhimanyu Das was responsible for the unnatural death of the woman leader.
According to Chaliha’s statement, Abhimanyu allegedly physically and verbally abused Tehbildar in a locked hotel room in Meghalaya’s Nongpoh area.
Chaliha further said that Abhimanyu allegedly forced Indrani to withdraw her candidature from Barpeta constituency in the next Lok Sabha elections to gain the support of some powerful people.
Furthermore, it was claimed that Abhimanyu used coercion and persuasion to gain control of the Barpeta Kisan Morcha and become its president.
According to Chaliha’s confession, Abhimanyu threatened Indrani Tehsildar to expose her private photos to the world if she did not agree to his requests. Further allegations stated that Abhimanyu wanted to force Indrani to have sex.
