Assam Police seized drugs worth Rs 7 crore, woman arrested
Guwahati (IANS). Assam Police seized narcotics worth Rs 7 crore in Cachar district and arrested a woman on charges of drug peddling. An official said on Friday that the consignment was being taken from Manipur.
Cachar district superintendent of police Numal Mahatta told IANS that the consignment of drugs was brought from Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
“Based on a tip-off, a police team launched a special operation against drug peddlers at Labok village in the district,” the official said. The police raided the house of 38-year-old woman Meena Kumari Sarma and recovered narcotics kept in 100 soap boxes.
Police have seized a total of 1.30 kg of drugs. He suspects it is heroin. After this Meena Kumari Sarma was also arrested.
“The international market value of the seized drugs would be around Rs 7 crore,” Mahatta claimed.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of the state police and posted on Twitter, “Based on credible information, Cachar Police conducted a special operation and arrested an accused. ₹ 1.3 crore worth Rs 7 crore was recovered from his house. Suspected heroin weighing kilograms was recovered. The heroin was allegedly brought illegally from the neighboring state.”
