Attack on police who went to catch criminal, 10 policemen injured
Mumbai. During a raid on a Mumbai Police team that had come to arrest a criminal in Thane district adjacent to Mumbai in Maharashtra, local people attacked them with stones. Ten Mumbai Police personnel were injured in this sudden attack. This information was given by a police officer himself. According to information received from the police, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, a team of Andheri Police Station, Mumbai had reached Irani Basti of Ambivali near Kalyan to arrest a criminal involved in a serious crime. As soon as the news of police presence in the area spread, many local people, including women, pelted stones at the Mumbai Police team.
Other items were also thrown. During this attack the policemen did not even get a chance to recover. Giving information about the incident, Station House Officer (SHO) of Khadakpada police station in Kalyan said that the policemen were surprised when they were attacked as they were not familiar with the area. The SHO said that at least 10 policemen have suffered minor injuries in the attack, who have been given treatment. The local police officer said that earlier also several police squads had been attacked in Irani Basti area. These attacks were carried out only when the police team tried to arrest criminals involved in some crime from there. SHO said that a case has been registered in connection with the attack on the police team. Now investigation into this matter is going on.
