Audio missing from old Instagram videos
San Francisco: Meta-owned Instagram has faced a strange problem in which audio from videos posted on the platform a few years ago has mysteriously disappeared.
When users try to play audio in a video posted on the platform a few years ago, it displays an error that says “Video has no sound”.
As The Verge reports, the issue appears to affect videos posted before the end of 2014.
Instagram users have reported that videos from 2014 and earlier (Instagram implemented video functionality in 2013) suddenly lost audio, with videos still playing but without sound.
This issue occurs with Android and iOS apps as well as the web.
However, Meta acknowledged the problem and said it is fixing the problem.
“We are aware that a bug caused some people to have trouble accessing audio on older feed posts,” Meta spokesperson Sean Kim was quoted as saying.
“The issue is being resolved and we apologize for the inconvenience,” he said.
Meanwhile, Instagram has announced a number of improvements to Reels, Feed Photos, Carousel, and Stories, as well as shared new insights to help creators better understand how their content is performing.
The company is testing the ability for users to scale, crop, and rotate individual clips. The company is also adding 10 new English text-to-speech voices to choose from, available in select countries. Users can now showcase their creativity with six new text fonts and styles available in hundreds of languages.
