Bhilai Nagar. Shopkeepers are selling goods in plastic film and polythene. Even after repeated explanations and challan action, they are not listening. Shopkeepers say that customers do not carry bags from home. They ask for everything in separate polythene bags, we have to give it. Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Pandey has directed all the officers of the Health Department to explain to the people and spread awareness about this. In this connection, a rally was organized today in the presence of Zone Commissioner Satish Yadav and Health Officer Javed Ali in Circular Market, Jawahar Market, Sabzi Mandi, Mutton Fish Market, Fruit Mandi.
The awareness rally started from Cantonment Police Station and was reaching among the traders and customers and explaining to them that taking or giving goods in plastic or polythene is prohibited. This membrane is so thin that it cannot even be recycled. It blocks drains. People throw vegetables, food items etc. in the bag, which the cow eats and falls sick, her stomach swells up. Water starts coming out of her nose, and one day she dies. Somewhere we, the people of the society, are responsible for all this. The traders who were selling goods in the bag despite being forbidden, were confiscated. A fine of Rs 2600 was also taken from small carts, vegetable sellers and buyers.
In the vegetable market itself, B.Tech engineer Subodh Singh was buying chilli, coriander, ginger, garlic, tomato, lemon etc. in different bags and was taking them away. He was stopped and explained, he was given a bag by the corporation. He admitted that it is our negligence that we do not carry a bag from home, now we will definitely carry it. Ms. Sandhya Devangan, a college student, was carrying vegetables in the bag. She was told that a good bag is available nearby for Rs 10, she immediately bought a new bag and took the goods. She said, I did not know that a bag was available so cheaply.
