Bajraheen Bai Gond became self-reliant by cultivating mustard.
Raipur. India is an agricultural country, where farming is not only a means of livelihood but also the foundation of self-reliance. Farmers in Chhattisgarh are also making steady progress with the support of modern technology and government schemes. In this context, Bajraheen Bai Gond, a farmer from Bindawal village in the Lormi development block of Mungeli district, has set a new example of success through mustard cultivation through her hard work and government support. Bajraheen Bai Gond has been involved in farming for the past 30 years.
Her family’s livelihood depends entirely on agriculture. In 2025-26, she participated in a mustard crop demonstration under the Agriculture Department’s Taraf scheme. Under this scheme, she was provided with improved mustard seeds for an area of 1,970 hectares.
The Agriculture Department, Lormi, not only provided seeds, but also fertilizers, disease control kits, and training from agricultural scientists from time to time. The positive impact of modern techniques and scientific guidance was clearly visible on the crop. As a result, Bajraheen Bai Gond achieved a yield of 16 quintals of mustard from 1 hectare of unirrigated land, far exceeding the region’s average yield. This significantly increased her income and strengthened her family’s financial situation. Bajraheen Bai Gond explains that the Agriculture Department’s schemes not only improved her production but also instilled confidence and self-reliance. She expressed her gratitude to the Agriculture Department, Lormi, and the Mungeli District Administration for this success.
