Bandora locals demand repair of defunct CCTV cameras to combat garbage dumping

PONDA: Bandora residents have demanded for the repair of defunct CCTV cameras installed in key locations across the panchayat area. The demand arises particularly to monitor and deter individuals involved in illegal garbage dumping.

Installed three years ago, the CCTV cameras had significantly reduced instances of roadside garbage dumping. However, with the cameras now out of order, the problem has resurfaced, with garbage once again accumulating in isolated spots along the roadsides.

Notable trouble spots include the service roads on the Farmagudi bypass and the access road to the KTC bus stand. External individuals have been observed dumping garbage in these areas, causing inconvenience to the locals and tarnishing the roads leading to renowned temples, frequented by tourists.

Former Panchayat member, Rajesh Naik, highlighted that the CCTV cameras were initially installed to deter both garbage dumping and criminal activities. However, over the past three years, the cameras have fallen into disrepair, necessitating expenditure on maintenance. Approximately six cameras were initially installed at key locations, such as the Kashimutt junction, KTC bus stand to GVM junction, and Gaunem, among others.
