Bangladeshi woman calls Balasore man her husband, files complaint with police

The Balasore man’s troubles increased when an FIR was lodged at Kamarda police station based on the complaint of a Bangladeshi woman who had accused him of fraud.

According to the complaint, Ruma Mariam from Amtoli area of Bangladesh was married to Birendra Pratap Bhanja of Buddhakusumi village under Kamarda police limits of Balasore after their love story happened through Facebook.

Mariam said the nephew came to Bangladesh six years ago to get to know her after a brief love story on Facebook. Their ‘Nikah’ took place in a mosque in Bangladesh. However, the nephew left for Odisha and never returned with him, he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Bhanja is married to another woman and lives with his family in Budhakusumi village.

Maryam had reached Budhakusumi village on 3 December in search of her nephew. The hope was that she would be recognized as the wife of her legally married nephew.
