Bashishtha police seized 31 containers of heroin.
Guwahati: Bashistha police conducted a targeted operation which resulted in the seizure of 31 containers of heroin, dealing a major blow to the local illegal drug trade. The seizure in Khanapara was of great importance to the illicit drug industry. Officials revealed that the total weight of the heroin seized was approximately 40 grams, indicating a huge quantity of heroin.
The operation also led to the arrest of a key figure of the entire drug trafficking organisation, called Ashok Saha. Saha’s arrest is a major success by Guwahati’s law enforcement agencies to fight drugs in the city. Apart from the recovery of heroin, two mobile phones seized from Saha’s possession can definitely aid in further research on the synthesized drug syndicate.
This is the latest action following increased efforts by the authorities to curb the trend of drug trafficking in Guwahati. Only last month, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police had conducted a commendable operation against narcotics, where two notorious smugglers, including a woman, were arrested, one of whom was a man. Search was conducted at Khanapara bus stand and STF caught two smugglers who had 61 grams of heroin.
On top of that, it was revealed that apart from 47 vials containing heroin, ten empty plastic containers and other illegal substances were also found inside them. Apart from this, Rs. 2,060 and a mobile phone were found, which is an indication of the extent to which the drug trade has spread in the city.
The relevant authorities have assured their committed audience that efforts to curb the spread of drugs in Guwahati will continue with even greater vigour. With each successful operation, officers aim to dismantle the networks that fuel the illicit trade and thus ensure that communities are not affected by the devastating effects of narcotics.
