Bengal government allocates land to improve infrastructure at Changarabandha land port
The Government of Bengal has allotted land for the development of infrastructure in the land port of Changarabandha on the border of India and Bangladesh in Cooch Behar district.
Chief Secretary H.K. Dwivedi, who met senior government officials and the district administration here on Sunday, said the project will be implemented in collaboration with the Ports Authority of India (LPAI).
“Exports and imports are increasing through Chengarabandha. To boost bilateral trade with Bangladesh, the state cabinet approved the proposal to set up necessary infrastructure in the land port. It has identified a plot of 30 acres and the project will be implemented in collaboration with LPAI. Along with the land port, we will also build a terminal for trucks”, Dwivedi said during the meeting.
It also said that to improve air connectivity in Cooch Behar, the government along with the Airport Authority of India conducted a joint study for the expansion of the runway. So now, a nine-seater flight will operate from here, but we want to operate a 26- or 40-seater flight from here. For this we need expansion”, said the senior officer.
