Bengaluru: Passenger jumps onto tracks at Jalahalli metro station, train operations affected for an hour

Bengaluru: A passenger suddenly jumped onto the tracks when a train collided with the Jalahalli metro station on Friday evening, disrupting train services between Yeshwantpur and Nagasandra in north Bengaluru for about an hour.

The loco pilot of the train was able to apply emergency brakes and slow down the train. The security guards then switched off the power supply to the third rail through the emergency trip system.

Following the incident, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) ran trains only between Silk Institute and Yeshwantpur on the Green Line. BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer BL Yashwant Chavan said services were restored on the entire line at around 8 pm.

“The passenger was rescued from the track and taken to Sanjeevani Hospital for medical treatment,” he told DH.

During that time, passengers of four trains running at different stations between Yesvantpur and Nagasandra were evacuated. Chavan said the police have been informed and are in the process of investigating.

The disruption caused chaos at the Yesvantpur metro station, which is located right opposite the Yesvantpur railway station and is visited by a large number of people. A passenger going to Jalahalli said the train from Majestic stopped at Sandal Soap Factory metro station for 10 minutes before leaving for Yesvantpur. “But as soon as the train reached Yeshwantpur, we were asked to get down,” he said.
