Pune: As the rackets collided and emotions ran high on Friday, the fourth day of Season 5 of the Tennis Premier League, there were thrilling matches that were pure cinematic drama.
The first match of the fourth day of Season 5 of the league started at Balewadi Stadium in Pune, where Punjab Patriots will face Mumbai Lions Army. In the women’s singles category, Connie Perrin of Punjab Patriots emerged victorious against Saujanya Bavisetti of Mumbai Lyon Army in a game that ended 11-9.
In the men’s singles category, Punjab Patriots’ Digvijay Pratap Singh lost 9-11 to Mumbai Lyon Army’s Ernest Gulbis. Connie Perrin and Arjun Khade of Punjab Patriots defeated Sowjanya Bavisetti and Vijay Sundar Prashant of Mumbai Lions Army in the mixed doubles category and the game ended 12-8.
The final game of the match was the men’s doubles category, in which Punjab Patriots’ Digvijay Pratap Singh and Arjun Khade took on Mumbai Lions Army’s Ernest Gulbis and Vijay Sundar Prashant. The game ended 11–9 in favor of Punjab Patriots.
The Patriots emerged victorious from the match as it ended 43–37 in their favor. Arjun Khade was named player of the match for his exceptional performance for the Patriots.
In the second match of the fourth day, Gujarat Panthers faced Bengaluru SG Mavericks. Gujarat Panthers ambassador, Arjun Kapoor was in the dugout motivating his players to push themselves during the game.
In the women’s singles category, Ekaterina Yashina of Gujarat Panthers defeated Arina Rodionova of Bengaluru SG Mavericks 12-8. In the men’s singles category, Gujarat Panthers’ Sumit Nagal lost to Bengaluru SG Mavericks’ Ramkumar Ramanathan, with the score at the end of the match standing at 6-14.
In the mixed doubles category, Ekaterina Yashina and Mukund Sasikumar of Gujarat Panthers lost 9-11 to Arina Rodionova and Vishnu Vardhan of Bengaluru SG Mavericks.
Gujarat Panthers’ Sumit Nagal and Mukund Sasikumar defeated Bengaluru SG Mavericks’ Ramkumar Ramanathan and Vishnu Vardhan in the men’s doubles event, which was dominated by Bengaluru and ended 7-13 in their favour.
Bengaluru SG Mavericks got the best of Gujarat Panthers as the match ended 34-46. Ramkumar Ramanathan was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance for Bengaluru SG Mavericks.
The third match of the fourth day was between Delhi Binny Brigade and Bengal Wizards. The match started with the women’s singles category, in which Sahaja Yamalapalli of Delhi Binny Brigade defeated Maria Timofeeva of Bengal Wizards 13-7.
Delhi Binny Brigade’s Dennis Novak and Bengal Wizards’ Sriram Balaji faced off in an entertaining men’s singles game, which ended 12-8 in favor of Delhi.
This was followed by mixed doubles play in which Delhi Binny Brigade’s Sahaja Yamlapalli and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan lost to Bengal Wizards’ Maria Timofeeva and Anirudh Chandrasekhar, which ended 9–11.
In the men’s doubles, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Dennis Novak of Delhi Binny Brigade took on Sriram Balaji and Anirudh Chandrashekhar of Bengal Wizards. Delhi Binny Brigade pair came on top with a score of 11-9. Delhi Binny Brigade won the match 45-35 in their favour. Dennis Novak of Delhi Binny Brigade was awarded the Player of the Match award.
The last match of the day was between Pune Jaguars and Hyderabad Strikers. In women’s singles, Diana Marcinkevica of Pune Jaguars lost 5-15 to Ellen Perez of Hyderabad Strikers. In the men’s singles category, Lucas Rosol of Pune Jaguars played out a draw with Niki Poonacha of Hyderabad Strikers, which ended 10-10.
In the mixed doubles category, Pune Jaguars’ Diana Marcinkevica and Ritwik Bolipalli faced Hyderabad Strikers’ Alan Perez and Saketh Myneni. The game ended 12–8 in favor of the Jaguars.
In the final game of day four, Pune Jaguars’ Ritwik Bollipalli and Lucas Rosol went up against Hyderabad Strikers’ Saketh Myneni and Nikki Pooncha in the men’s doubles category. The game ended 12–8 in favor of the Jaguars.
Hyderabad Strikers remained on top in the match after the draw 39-41. Hyderabad Strikers’ Allan Perez won the Player of the Match award.
On the fourth day of TPL Season 5, Balewadi Stadium was drenched with electric energy and the spectators were left breathless. Bengaluru SG Mavericks topped the table with 173 points.
Punjab Patriots and Bengal Wizards finished second and third respectively in the league table with 164 points.
