New Delhi: Manish Sisodia, the former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, who is implicated in the Excise Policy scam case, appeared in the Rouse Avenue court on Wednesday regarding a CBI-related matter. The CBI informed the court about the deliberate delays caused by the defense in the proceedings.
During the session presided over by Special Judge MK Nagpal, the CBI alleged that the defense was intentionally prolonging the case. Conversely, the defense argued that they hadn’t received complete documents pertinent to the chargesheet, making it impossible to adequately present their client’s side. They attributed the delay in the hearing to the CBI’s sluggishness in providing investigation-related documents and the chargesheet to the accused party.
After considering arguments from both sides, the court scheduled the next hearing for December 22. Additionally, the CBI has been directed to furnish necessary documents to the defense during this interval. It’s worth noting that in a separate money laundering case associated with the same scam, Manish Sisodia had appeared in court on Tuesday, where the judicial custody was extended until December 11.
In both cases, the defense has consistently emphasized the lack of provided documents regarding the allegations against Sisodia, hindering their ability to present their side in response to the chargesheets. Repeatedly, they have requested these documents in court, and the court has directed the investigating agencies accordingly. However, there have been delays on the part of the investigating agency in providing the required documents.
