Bijapur news: Nine Naxalites arrested in Bijapur
Bijapur: Nine Naxalites have been arrested from two places in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, five of whom were allegedly involved in the IED blast targeting a police officer’s car last month, police said on Wednesday. Five Naxalites were arrested from Mandem-Kuprel villages in the Farsegarh police station area, while four others were arrested from the Maddeh police station area, police said in a statement.
All the arrested Naxalites were allegedly involved in incidents of murder, planting IEDs to target security personnel, cutting roads, illegal extortion and putting up Maoist posters and banners. Those arrested from Farsegarh have been identified as Guddu Kumma (25), Budhu Kumma (30), Suresh Oyam (29), Vinod Korsa (25) and Munna Kumma (25). All of them were allegedly involved in the IED blast targeting the car of two policemen in the Farsegarh area on May 15. Station House Officer Akash Masih of Farsegarh police station and constable Sanjay, who were in the car, escaped unhurt, while the bonnet of the vehicle was damaged in the blast, it said. All the five cadres were carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 each, it said. Of the four others arrested from Maddeed, Lachu Punem was active as a member of the Maddeed area committee of Maoists and had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, it said. The four were allegedly trying to plant an IED on both sides of the road near Somanpalli and Bandepara, it said. Explosives, safety fuse, gelatin sticks, Maoist pamphlets and banners were recovered from them, it said.
