BJP leader Sushil Modi said, Congress could not pass the women’s reservation bill under the pressure of Lalu Prasad.
Patna (IANS). Former Deputy Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi clearly said on Wednesday that due to succumbing to Lalu Prasad’s ‘blackmailing’, Congress could not get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed by both the Houses of Parliament even after being in power for 10 years.
He said that Congress is still with parties like RJD and SP, who used all kinds of gimmicks to stop the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Sushil Modi said that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed the courage to present ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Bill’ (Reservation Bill) in the Lok Sabha, then it is unfortunate to repeat the same old sophistry.
He said that before bringing the Women’s Reservation Bill, PM Modi has been showing his respect towards half the population by implementing programs like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, Kanya Samriddhi Yojana, Ujjwala Free Gas Connection Scheme.
He said that out of the more than 50 crore Jan Dhan accounts opened by the initiative of the Central Government, 60 percent are the accounts of poor women from backward, extremely backward and Dalit communities. The government has just given a Raksha Bandhan gift to women by deciding to give a subsidy of Rs 200 on LPG cylinders.
He said that on the other hand, there is Lalu Prasad who is anti-women’s reservation, during whose 15-year rule atrocities on women increased and Panchayat elections were conducted in 2003 without giving any reservation. At that time, reservation was not given even to SC-ST on single posts.
Sushil Modi said that when the NDA government with BJP partnership was formed in 2005, women along with backward and extremely backward classes got reservation in the Panchayat elections of Bihar.
