BJP’s Ritu Tawde to Be Mumbai Mayor, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Shankar Ghadi as Deputy

BJP corporator Ritu Tawde has filed her nomination for the post of Mayor of Mumbai (Brihan Mumbai Corporation-BMC). Similarly, Sanjay Shankar Ghadi of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has filed her nomination for the post of Deputy Mayor. It is known that BJP and Shiv Sena contested the BMC elections together as the Mahayuti alliance. This alliance won the majority of seats. However, there is a dilemma regarding the post of Mayor.
Recently, BJP candidate Ritu Tawde filed her nomination for the post of Mumbai Mayor on behalf of the alliance, while Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shankar Ghadi filed her nomination for the post of Deputy Mayor. The elections for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on the 11th of this month. The Mahayuti alliance won 118 seats in the 227-member BMC. Of these, BJP won 89 seats and Shiv Sena (Shinde) won 29 seats. Ritu Tawde, who is contesting as Mayor, won from Ghatkopar, ward 132. She has won as a corporator three times so far. Ritu was previously a member of the Congress. She left the party in 2012 and joined the BJP. BMC is the largest local body (corporation) in the country. The budget of this organization last year was Rs. 74,450 crore. It is noteworthy that elections are being held for the BMC after nine years.
Now.. after a long time, Shiv Sena will lose the post of Mumbai Mayor. The party has been winning the Mayor’s seat since 1997. This time, Shiv Sena (UBT) won only 65 seats. Its allies MNS won 6 seats, NCP (Sharad Pawar) one seat, Congress 24 seats, AIMIM 8 seats and SP two seats. However, despite being in the Mahayuti alliance, Ajit Pawar’s NCP entered the fray on its own. It won only 3 seats. These three seats will also now be part of the Mahayuti alliance.
