Bodies of two labourers recovered from a 30-feet deep well in Trichy

Trichy: Decomposed bodies of two people were found in an abandoned well near Lalgudi in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu, creating a sensation in the area. In the preliminary investigation, both the deceased have been identified as laborers working in a brick kiln, who were reported missing since last May. After the recovery of the dead bodies, the police are investigating the case from various aspects keeping in mind the possibility of murder.

According to the police, on Monday, local villagers informed the Lalgudi police that a strong foul smell was coming from an old and unused well located in Keezhadathigudi village. This approximately 30 feet deep well is said to be situated on the land of a person named Sahyaraj. After receiving information about foul smell, police immediately reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the Fire and Rescue Service team was also called. After much effort, the rescue team took out two decomposed bodies from inside the well. The condition of the dead bodies was so bad that it was difficult to identify them. The most shocking thing was that the head of one of the two bodies was missing, which deepened the suspicion regarding the incident.

The search operation had to be stopped on Monday due to evening and increasing darkness. After this the campaign was started again on Tuesday morning. During the search, the missing head was also recovered from inside the well. After this, the police surrounded the entire area and started a detailed investigation.

During the investigation, the police found many important clues in and around the well. These include some clothes, a mobile phone and other items. All these items have been seized and sent for forensic examination. Police are trying to find out whether these belongings belong to the deceased or to some other person and how they are linked to the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that two laborers working in a brick kiln operating in Pachampet area near Lalgudi were missing since the month of May. After his sudden disappearance his family members had searched for him. Later, a woman named Mariammal lodged a complaint with the police in this regard. After receiving the complaint, the police registered a missing case and started investigation, but at that time no clue of the workers was found.

Now, after the bodies found in the well have been identified as missing laborers, the police is looking into connecting the old missing case with this new incident. Authorities believe that if the identity is fully confirmed, this case could turn from a simple disappearance to a serious criminal incident.

Police have sent both the bodies to the government hospital for post-mortem. The doctors’ report is expected to clarify how the two died, the time of their death and whether any kind of violence was inflicted on them. Due to the highly decomposed condition of the bodies, post-mortem and forensic investigation are being considered extremely important in this case.

The investigating officers are also trying to find out whether the two laborers died by accidentally falling into the well or whether they were thrown there after murder. The suspicion of murder has become stronger after the head of a dead body was found. However, the police say that it would not be appropriate to reach any conclusion before the post-mortem and forensic reports come.

The police are also interrogating the owner of the brick kiln, other laborers working there, complainant Mariammal and acquaintances of the deceased. Besides, aspects like activities of the deceased, mutual relations, any dispute or financial transactions are also being investigated. Police are also examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding areas and call records of mobile phones, so that any important clue related to the incident can be found.

After this incident came to light, there is an atmosphere of panic and anxiety among the local people. The villagers have demanded that the matter should be investigated impartially and quickly and the culprits should be arrested as soon as possible. He says that if it is a case of murder, then the criminals should be given strict punishment as per law.

At present, the police is carrying forward the investigation keeping all possible aspects in mind. Officials say that further action will be taken on the basis of information received from post-mortem report, forensic evidence and interrogation. Only after the investigation is completed, it will be clear under what circumstances the two laborers died and whether there was any criminal conspiracy behind it or not.
