BRS alleges Congress is investing money from Karnataka to Telangana.

Hyderabad: After Rs 42 crore in cash was allegedly found in Income Tax (IT) department raids in Karnataka, Telangana’s ruling party BRS on Friday alleged that the Congress is trying to drain money in the Telangana Assembly elections.

Finance Minister T. Harish Rao alleged that the Congress planned to spend Rs 1,500 crore in Telangana by collecting commission from builders and gold traders in Bengaluru. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader said the Congress wants to influence voters in Telangana with illegal money.

He said that earlier when BJP was in power in Karnataka, it used to take 40 percent commission from contractors, but after Congress came to power, the commission has increased to 50 percent.

Harish Rao was reacting to reports of IT raids in Bengaluru. IT officials allegedly found Rs 42 crore in cash from a contractor’s house. Earlier, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao had on September 30 alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka was imposing ‘political poll tax’ on Bengaluru builders to fund the party in Telangana.

He had said in a public meeting that Congress was taking money from Karnataka and Chhattisgarh and spending it in Telangana to woo voters. Elections for the 119-member Telangana Assembly are to be held on November 30.
