BSP Tamil Nadu state president hacked to death in front of kin
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu BSP state president K Armstrong was hacked to death by a six-member gang near Perambur on Friday. The gang on the pretext of delivering food unleashed the attack near Armstrong’s residence in the Sembiam area of Chennai. The leader was conducting a party meeting when the horrific incident took place. The locals and party workers rushed him to hospital but he couldn’t be saved.
At present, eight people have been arrested. Despite BSP sitting on the political periphery in Tamil Nadu, Armstrong through his leadership had been at the forefront of many issues and discussions. Police doubt previous enmity is the reason for the murder. Arcot Suresh’s brother was arrested. The police had earlier suspected that a feud related to Arcot Suresh’s murder might have some role in this case. Armstrong, a lawyer by profession, had almost eight criminal cases on his record. The opposition parties raised concern about the deteriorating law and order of the state which is now seeing repeated goon killings. Armstrong was elected to the Chennai Corporation Council in 2006. BSP leader Mayawati through X expressed shock and eulogised Armstrong for always being the voice of Dalits and she asked the government to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
