Buildings of property tax defaulters sealed
The property tax branch of the Municipal Corporation (MC) on Friday sealed seven buildings of tax defaulters. A team of North Zone staff sealed seven major establishments in Ranjit Avenue, including restaurants, SCOs, dhabas and showrooms. Senior MC official Vishal Wadhawan said a team led by North Zone Superintendent Davinder Babbar and Inspector Satinder Singh along with the MC police met several defaulters. Of the seven sealed buildings, three defaulters paid their pending property tax and the MC opened the sealed properties. Vishal Wadhawan said that the sealing campaign against property tax defaulters will continue.
On Friday, the property tax department collected Rs 15.78 lakh. So far Rs 33.41 crore has been recovered in this financial year.
The MC has set a target of collecting Rs 45 crore from property tax during 2023-24. MC officials claimed that the target would be achieved by the end of March as most of the commercial units pay the tax at the last moment. The MC has started the sealing drive from Monday and sealed more than 20 buildings to put pressure on the defaulters. The property tax wing has issued hundreds of sealing notices in every zone.
