Businessman murdered in family dispute, SP reveals

Bilaspur. Due to a family dispute, the stepmother and her two minor children together killed a young man and took the body to the forest and burnt it. The police have arrested the accused and a car driver who helped them. While disclosing the case, Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh said that on February 4, an unidentified dead body was found in a half-burnt condition among the bushes in the forest of Fadahakhar under Shirkat police station. The security police found on the spot that the deceased was murdered with a sharp weapon and the body was brought from some other place and burnt to hide his identity.

A piece of paper containing a mobile phone number was found in a sack found at the spot. This number belonged to a businessman from Birra village of Janjgir Champa district. Seeing the photo, the businessman recognized the dead body and told that it was his neighbor vegetable trader Ravi Sahu. He was not visible for the last two-three days. Police reached Ravi Sahu’s house. After strict interrogation, it was found that the deceased’s father Mohanlal Sahu had died. He often had disputes with his stepmother Hemlata Sahu, 38, and her two minor sons. During one such quarrel, on January 31, at around 8:00 am, the deceased had set his own house on fire due to which many items were burnt. There was another dispute between them at around 2:30 in the afternoon, after which no one had seen the deceased.

The accused told that at 3:00 pm they killed Ravi Sahu by hitting him on the head with an iron pipe. After the murder, they prepared Sunil Yadav, who drove a rented car, to destroy the evidence. The dead body was tied in a sack and put in Sunil’s Ertiga car and brought to Fadahakhar forest late at night. To prevent the body from being identified, they sprinkled petrol on it, set it on fire and fled from there. Police have seized the goods and car used in the incident. The police arrested the deceased’s stepmother and the driver and produced them in the court, from where they were sent to jail on judicial remand. The minor brothers were presented in the juvenile court.
