BVP’s Green Campaign on 64th Foundation Day

Indore: On the occasion of its 64th Foundation Day, Ahilyanagri branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) organized a massive plantation drive in the SGSITS (Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science) campus, giving the message of environmental protection. A large number of members and their families participated in this program organized under the national campaign of the Council and took a pledge to plant trees as well as take care of them.
The program was organized on the theme “One Plant, One Life”. The main objective of the campaign was to revive the Miyawaki Forest growing on the institute campus by planting new saplings in place of the plants which had been affected due to extreme heat and lack of water in recent months. Through this initiative, the message of environmental protection, expansion of green area and promotion of biodiversity was also given.
The program started with tree plantation, in which council officials, members, social workers and their families participated enthusiastically. All the participants planted saplings of various species in the campus and took a pledge to conserve them. The importance of environmental protection was also discussed in detail during the program.
Officials of Bharat Vikas Parishad said that in view of increasing urbanization, climate change and continuously decreasing green area, the need for such campaigns has increased more than ever. He said that merely planting trees is not enough, but their regular care and protection is equally important so that they grow and provide real benefits to the environment.
Council President Sanjay Mehta, while addressing the program, said that environmental protection today is not the responsibility of only the government or any one institution, but it is the responsibility of the entire society. He said that every citizen should take a pledge to plant at least one tree in his life and take care of it.
Sanjay Mehta said, “Plantation will be meaningful only when the planted saplings are taken regular care of. It is not enough to just plant the saplings and leave them. It is also our responsibility to water them, provide protection and pay attention to their growth.”
He told that due to recent severe heat and water crisis, some plants of Miyawaki Forest growing in the institute campus were affected. For this reason, the Council decided to plant new saplings on the occasion of Foundation Day so that the green area can be redeveloped.
The members participating in the program also expressed their resolve to take responsibility for the safety of the planted saplings at their level. Many participants said that they would visit the campus from time to time to inquire about the condition of the plants and cooperate in their care.
Environmental experts believe that forests developed using Miyawaki method grow faster due to higher density of plants in less space. This increases biodiversity, helps in controlling temperature and also improves air quality. This method is considered an effective technique for environmental protection in urban areas.
Speakers present during the program also expressed their views on water conservation, clean environment and importance of trees. He said that to deal with the challenges of climate change, every person in the society will have to play an active role in plantation and conservation of natural resources.
Bharat Vikas Parishad has been working for public awareness through social, cultural and environmental activities for a long time. From time to time, programs like health camps, blood donation, education assistance and environmental protection are organized by the Council. This tree plantation campaign organized on the Foundation Day was also a part of this series.
At the conclusion of the program, all the participants took an oath to protect the environment and reiterated their pledge to actively participate in such campaigns in future also. Council officials said that in the coming times also, programs related to tree plantation, water conservation and environmental awareness will be organized in different areas of the city.
Bharat Vikas Parishad believes that if every person of the society makes even a small contribution towards environmental protection, then a clean, green and safe environment can be created for the coming generations. With this message, the Council celebrated its 64th Foundation Day as a pledge of service, values and environmental protection.
