Call for equipping students with critical thinking and business skills
Margao: Students were advised to follow the cultural and moral values of their parents and contribute to the community after achieving the career of their choice. The final day of the Saraswat Food and Cultural Festival, where students gathered with their families, also highlighted the importance of developing leadership qualities. The speakers also called upon the students to strengthen the Saraswat Samaj.
Srinivas Dempo, Chairman of Dempo Group of Companies, who was the chief guest at the felicitation ceremony, suggested ways to the students to be successful in life.
“Taking risks is something that should be a part of your life. “Such events provide a great opportunity for children especially to exchange ideas and can help them develop the community and society as a whole,” Dempo said.
Expressing support to the organizers and the community, Dempo urged the students to work hard and doing so will ultimately yield fruitful results. A total of 160 students from SSC, HSSC, undergraduate and postgraduate levels were felicitated. Jagannath Desh Prabhudesai, president of the Goa Saraswat Samaj, suggested setting up a ‘Saraswat Bhawan’ in Margao for the benefit of the community.
BS Pai Angle, Managing Director, EDC shared information on government supported schemes for the benefit of the people and also suggested many aspects of development for a student.
“Equip students with skills apart from education. There are other skills that a child needs such as problem solving, critical thinking and even entrepreneurship skills. My advice to students is to keep banking and finance as their subject. There are three D’s that will help students in their future: discipline, dedication and determination,” Engle said.
