
Delhi Delhi: Central Electricity Authority (CEA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, in association with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) successfully organised the fifth edition of ‘Lineman’s Day’ in New Delhi today. The day is celebrated to recognise the invaluable contribution of linemen and ground maintenance staff who are considered the backbone of India’s power sector. Over 180 linemen from over 45 state and private power distribution, generation and transmission companies across India came together to share experiences, challenges and critical moments in maintaining uninterrupted power supply. Additionally, the event served as an important platform to exchange ideas, discuss best safety practices and promote mass learning among the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal in his video message emphasised that, “Reliable access to electricity is the lifeline of thriving industries, prosperous businesses and vibrant communities. Linemen, our unsung heroes, work tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted power supply, braving any challenge – be it weather, disaster or adversity. Linemen’s Day on 4th March celebrates their unwavering dedication and promotes safety, collaboration and innovation in the energy sector. A day dedicated to honouring their critical role, especially during National Safety Week, underlines the importance of their safety and well-being.” The Minister’s message can be viewed here. The theme of the 5th edition of Linemen’s Day celebrations was ‘Sewa, Suraksha, Swabhimaan’, reflecting the dedication, service and sacrifice of the frontline heroes of the power sector. Acknowledging the dedication and efforts of the linemen, Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairman, Central Electricity Authority, Ministry of Power, Government of India launched a special anthem on Linemen’s Day. Appreciating the contribution of linemen, he emphasized that one of the key elements to ensure safety and uninterrupted service in our power sector is hotline maintenance training for our linemen. This specialized training equips our linemen with the skills needed to work on live electrical lines, which require a high level of expertise and caution. Its importance lies directly in maintaining the reliability of the power grid while protecting the lives of our workers.
