Cash worth lakhs of rupees seized along with gold worth Rs 50 lakh

Mahasamund. Mahasamund Police of Chhattisgarh has taken major action against gold smugglers at Rehtikhol Odisha border. Police have recovered gold jewelery worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 19 lakh 50 thousand in cash from a Scorpio. The entire matter is of Singhoda police station area. Singhoda police was checking vehicles near Inter State Check Post Rehtikhol. During this time, the white colored Scorpio coming from Odisha was stopped. There were two persons traveling in the car, who were interrogated and the vehicle was searched. During this time, 4 gold pieces were found inside a plastic bag.

Two more persons riding motorcycle number OD- 17 Z 4478 were stopped. Upon questioning and searching him, Rs 19 lakh 50 thousand cash was found in the bag. Apart from this, gold jewelery worth Rs 50 lakh, 24 thousand and 440 was found. The police seized the gold and cash and detained all four people for questioning. Both are said to be from the same gang. Now Mahasamund police is busy investigating whether gold smuggling has any international connection. The police is now preparing to hand over the case to DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence).
