CBI caught railway engineer taking bribe
Lucknow. A case of bribe taking by a railway official has come to light in Lucknow, UP. The Central Bureau of Investigation i.e. CBI caught Harish Kumar, Deputy Chief Engineer II Construction, Northern Railway, posted in Charbagh, Lucknow, red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. The bribe giving contractor Upendra Tomar and his son Prashant Tomar have also been arrested. CBI also raided and searched the premises of the accused. During this period, approximately Rs 52 lakh in cash, locker keys, some electronic items and some objectionable documents have been recovered.
The arrested Deputy Chief Engineer II Harish Kumar is a 2006 batch IRSE (Indian Railway Services of Engineers). The CBI had on Tuesday registered an FIR against 10 accused, including Harish Kumar and private individuals. It was alleged that the accused had shown undue favor to the contractor of a private company based in Kosi Kalan (Mathura) and demanded bribe for early payment of his dues. After arresting Deputy Chief Engineer II Harish Kumar and the contractor who gave the bribe and his son, the CBI searched several locations of the accused in Lucknow, Jaunpur and Kosi Kalan. During this time, the recovered locker keys, electronic items and objectionable documents will be examined. More recoveries are expected when the locker is opened. The three arrested accused will be presented before the competent court on Thursday.
