CBI court grants anticipatory bail to chief parcel supervisors
Mumbai: A special CBI court had last week granted bail to two chief parcel supervisors booked on corruption charges after the agency found anomalies in parcel management at LTT. The agency claimed that the accused accepted money from private parcel lease holders and ignored their discrepancies.
allegations against them
Two chief parcel supervisory officers – Janardan Deshpande and Sanjay Ghadge – were booked after a surprise inspection by CBI officials along with an officer from the vigilance department of Western Railways at the parcel department of Lokmanya Tilak Terminal on November 6.
It has been claimed that during the joint surprise inspection, the CBI team had found some discrepancy in the weight of parasails received from the customer and the amount/payment. It is claimed that Janardhan had received Rs. Took Rs 8.16 lakh from a private agent Arjun Jaiswal during August 01, 2022 to June 23, 2023 for clearing his parcel. Whereas, officials alleged, Ghadge had received Rs. Charged Rs 5.18 lakh from a private agency, Suryabhan Deepkar, for clearing his parcel during the period from July 06, 2022 to October 28, 2023.
petition for anticipatory bail
In their separate pleas for anticipatory bail, filed through advocate Arjun Lingalode, the duo claimed that they had given loans to the respective agents and the amount received was nothing but refund of the loan amount. He claimed that when he was called for questioning, the relevant documents were also handed over to the agency.
After considering the case documents and arguments of the accused, the court has granted them anticipatory bail and asked both the officers to cooperate in the investigation.
