CBI ordered to respond to DMK MP’s plea seeking documents in embezzlement case

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court has ordered the CBI to respond to a petition filed by DMK MP A. Raja seeking the release of certain documents in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.
In 2015, the CBI filed a disproportionate assets case against DMK MP A. Raja and his wife. The case is being heard in a special court in Chennai that handles cases against MPs and MLAs. The CBI filed a charge sheet in the case. A. Raja filed a petition in the special court seeking an order for the CBI to release certain documents not included in the charge sheet. The special court dismissed the petition and granted the order.
A. Raja filed a petition in the Chennai High Court challenging this order. When the case came up for hearing before Justice A.T. Jagadeeshachandra on Wednesday, Advocate A. Saravanan appeared and argued on behalf of the petitioner.
The special criminal prosecutor representing the CBI said he needed more time to respond to the petition. Accepting this, the judge ordered the CBI to respond and adjourned the hearing to next week.
