Chandigarh: Case registered against immigration agent
Chandigarh: The UT police have registered a case against an immigration consultant for allegedly duping several people in the name of sending them abroad. Pankaj Kumar of Kurukshetra had reported that Kulbir Singh, who runs an office in Sector 17, had allegedly duped him and others of Rs 69 lakh. A case has been registered at Sector 17 police station and investigation has been started.
Two arrested with 10 kg opium
Lalu: Police on Monday arrested two persons near Dapper barrier here and recovered 10 kg opium from them. The suspects have been identified as Inderjit Singh and Navpreet Singh, residents of Tarn Taran. A case has been registered against them under the NDPS Act at Lalru police station. Police said the suspects had purchased the smuggled goods from Jharkhand and sold it to customers in the tricity.
Orientation programme
Mohali: Amity University organised its orientation programme on Wednesday. Over 2,000 students and parents attended the event, which was the beginning of a new journey for the incoming batch. Amity Education Group Senior Vice President U Ramachandran, Amity University Punjab Vice Chancellor RK Kohli and staff members were present on the occasion.
Seminar for women employees
Mohali: Paragon Senior Secondary School, Sector 69 organised a seminar on ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ to discuss the problems faced by women employees. CJM-cum-District Legal Services Authority Secretary Surabhi Parashar apprised the faculty members about the provisions of law on prevention of sexual harassment and discussed the guidelines given by the Supreme Court in the case of Vishaka and others vs State of Rajasthan.
