Chandigarh news: Auto driver died in accident

Chandigarh: An auto driver was killed and four passengers were injured after being hit by a recklessly driven SUV at Kalagram light point. The auto driver and four passengers were identified as Meenal, a resident of Sector 20, Panchkula, Ashish, a resident of Barnala, Jishan and Munna, both residents of Sector 56. They were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32. The auto driver, who is yet to be identified, succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered against 21-year-old SUV driver Mehul Garg at Mani Majra police station, police said. He was arrested and later released on bail.

Snatchers target two people

Two incidents of snatching have been reported in the city. Two miscreants on a motorcycle snatched a purse from a 72-year-old woman at Modern Housing Complex (MHC), Mani Majra. The purse contained Rs 6,000, mobile phone and documents. The second incident took place at Kajheri in Sector 52. Vishnu Shanu said that two miscreants on a bike snatched his mobile phone. Police have registered separate cases. TNS
Three arrested for snatching
Chandigarh: Police have arrested three people for snatching cash and documents in Hallo Mazra. Jagdish Singh alleged that Vinay, Amit and Vinit, residents of Ram Darbar snatched Rs 4,000 and documents from him. TNS
Carrom coaching camp begins
A 12-day summer carrom coaching camp began at St Stephen’s School in Sector 45. A total of 21 players (14 boys and 7 girls) from the tricity are participating in the camp. Farheen, a former sub-junior national champion and two-time runner-up in the junior nationals, and Mahesh Sekhri, international and general secretary of Chandigarh Carrom Association, are conducting the camp. Arjunveer shines with the bat
Arjunveer hit a brilliant unbeaten century to help hosts St Stephen’s Cricket Academy beat Ice Cricket Academy, Ambala by 37 runs in the ongoing open cricket tournament. Batting first, St. Stephens scored 208 runs in 25 overs. Arjunvir played an unbeaten innings of 130 runs off 89 balls. In reply, Ambala’s team collapsed at 171 runs. On the bowling side, Arjun Thakur took four wickets and Harnoor took two wickets. Arjunvir also took one wicket.

Arindam scored a century, took 2 wickets

Thanks to the all-round performance of Arindam Chaddha, Chandigarh Cricket Nursery (CCN) defeated Sky World School, Panchkula by 35 runs in the 17th Sub-Junior Little Champs Cricket Trophy. Chaddha scored 105 runs off 70 balls and took two wickets for 34 runs. Batting first, CCN scored 229/9 runs in 27 overs. Shubham Kapoor and Pinjan took two wickets each. In reply, Panchkula’s team collapsed at 194 runs. Tegnur Singh took three wickets, while Chaddha and Parth took two wickets each.
