Chandigarh news: Youth arrested with two kg opium in UP

Chandigarh: Sandhu FC (Blue) won the Under-15 Chandigarh Youth League by registering a 1-0 win over St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45 in their last match at the Sector 46 Sports Complex. Both teams played aggressively for the first 45 minutes. However, both the teams failed to take the lead. After the break, Sandhu FC players made the breakthrough when midfielder Sarthak made a move from the right flank and passed a high pass to striker Gurbir Singh, who without hesitation headed the ball across the goal line. The St. Stephen’s team secured the second position, while St. John’s High School, Sector 26 finished third. Pratyaksha (top scorer), Agamjot Singh (best goalkeeper), Vipunu (best midfielder) and Tegbir Singh (best defender) won individual awards.

Meanwhile, in the Under-13 league, Royal FC registered a 6-1 win over Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21. Himash (13th, 28th, 47th minutes) scored one goal each for the winning team, followed by Ahaan (5th, 49th) and Sagar (48th). Abhiraj scored one goal for the Sector 21 team. Blue Star FC defeated Sandhu FC 3-1. Somnath (13th), Himanshu (39th) and Krish (47th) scored one goal each for the winning team, while Jai scored a goal for Sandhu FC in the 33rd minute. Chandan (4th, 44th) scored two goals to help Velocity FC register a 3-2 win over Government Model High School (RC1), Dhanas. Rehman and Sadiq scored one goal each for the Dhanas team. Chandigarh: Police arrested a youth from Bareilly near Verka Chowk in Phase 6 and recovered 2 kg opium from him. The suspect has been identified as Sunil Mongia, who was stopped during checking and a bag was recovered from him. A case has been registered at Phase 1 police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The suspect is a Class IX pass and unmarried, police said. TNS
Chess competition from June 28
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Chess Academy (CCA) under the aegis of Chandigarh Chess Association and All India Chess Federation will organise the All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament-2024. It will be held from June 28 to July 2 at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36 and will have a total prize money of Rs 5 lakh. Around 300 players from across India are expected to participate in the tournament.TNS
Chandigarh: Ekam Saini’s quickfire 98 off 56 balls helped St Soldier School, Panchkula beat Atwal Sports XI by 132 runs in the 17th Sub Junior Little Champs Trophy. Batting first, Panchkula scored 251/2 with the help of Saini and Priyansh (87). In reply, Atwal Sports were bowled out for 118. Devrat Singh took four wickets while Arik took two wickets. TNS
Trisha wins U-11 TT gold
Chandigarh: Trisha earlier won the U-11 category gold by defeating Nivaan on the final day of the Chandigarh Table Tennis Prize Money League. In the girls’ U-13 category, Pratithi defeated Garvita to top the list, while Parth defeated Jap in the boys’ U-13 final. Vani defeated Titiksha to win the girls’ U-17 final, while Vishal defeated Vihaan to win the boys’ U-17 final. In the women’s final, Tamannaah won the title by defeating Pelf, while Preetish Sood won the men’s title by defeating Vishal.
