Chennai airport to lead TN in passenger traffic in 2025-26

Chennai, May 9:

According to data released by the Airports Authority of India, Chennai International Airport has become the busiest airport in Tamil Nadu, recording the highest passenger traffic during the 2025–2026 financial year.

The airport handled approximately 23 million passengers between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, a 2.7% increase over the previous financial year. Officials attributed this steady growth to the increase in both domestic and international flight services, strengthening Chennai’s position as a key aviation hub in South India.

Coimbatore International Airport ranked second in the state, handling 3.22 million passengers, registering a growth of 5.2%. Tiruchirappalli International Airport followed, recording 2.22 million passengers, largely due to increased connectivity with Southeast Asian destinations.

Madurai Airport ranked fourth with 1.38 million passengers. Meanwhile, Tuticorin Airport handled 2.90 lakh passengers, and Salem Airport handled 1.27 lakh passengers during the same period.
Data shows that air travel demand is continuously increasing across Tamil Nadu, with regional airports also gradually increasing due to better connectivity and increasing passenger preference for air travel.
