Chennai: Residents say the roads in Valasaravakkam were neglected even during the polling period.
Chennai: Even during election season, when road construction is typically prioritized, residents of Chakarbani Nagar in Valasaravakkam are facing significant difficulties due to severely deteriorated roads. While many roads in Chennai have been reconstructed ahead of the upcoming elections, residents say Chakarbani Nagar has been neglected. While road reconstruction and addressing public grievances are generally considered routine during election time, locals allege their neighborhood has been neglected. Chakarbani Nagar, a prominent residential area in Valasaravakkam, is in poor condition in many parts. Residents say the main road junction is particularly affected, with poorly maintained, uneven, and paved curves posing significant danger to two-wheeler riders.
Ranjith, a college student in the area, said both the internal roads and the main road are in poor condition. They said it was becoming increasingly difficult for people to walk on these roads. Another resident, Beno, said that several roads were dug up for stormwater drain work and were not properly repaired after the work was completed. He added that the area is mostly residential, and many women use these roads to drop their children off at nearby schools. The damaged sections make commuting difficult and sometimes lead to accidents. Residents say the main road junction has been particularly affected, where poorly maintained, uneven, and poorly paved curves increase the risk of accidents. Residents have appealed to civic officials to take immediate steps to repair the roads and ensure a safe commute in the area.
