Massive fire at Thrissur station parking, over 200 vehicles reduced to ashes

Thrissur: A massive fire broke out at Thrissur Railway Station on Sunday, gutting over 200 two-wheelers parked in the station parking lot. The incident occurred in the two-wheeler parking area near platform number 2, causing panic among commuters and residents nearby.

According to initial reports, the fire was first noticed around 6:45 a.m. The flames quickly engulfed the parking area, which typically sees over 500 motorcycles and scooters parked daily.

The presence of fuel in the parked vehicles is believed to have contributed to the fire’s rapid spread, causing extensive damage within minutes. Fire and rescue services immediately arrived at the scene upon receiving an alert.

Several fire tenders were deployed, and firefighters worked for about half an hour to control the blaze. Although the fire was brought under control, thick smoke lingered in the area for some time, causing inconvenience to commuters and station staff.
Eyewitnesses reported that several vehicles were completely burned, while others suffered minor damage. Owners of parked vehicles, many of whom are daily commuters, rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and found their two-wheelers reduced to ashes. Officials are still estimating the exact number of vehicles burned.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. Officials stated that a detailed investigation will be conducted to determine whether the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, a fuel leak, or some other reason.
CCTV footage from the railway station premises could play a key role in the investigation. Importantly, railway officials have confirmed that the incident has not affected train services.
The parking area is near the tracks for trains going to Guruvayur, but timely intervention ensured that the fire did not spread to railway infrastructure.
Train traffic remained normal throughout the incident. Railway officials and local authorities have assured affected vehicle owners that necessary action will be taken after the investigation is complete. This incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety measures in crowded public places like railway stations.
