Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme: Over 51 lakh people received no-cost treatment facilities near home

Raipur. The Chhattisgarh government’s ambitious scheme, the Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme, provides free health care access to people living in urban areas through mobile medical units. As per the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, poor families living in slums in urban areas of Chhattisgarh are provided with no-cost treatment facilities near their homes, and this scheme has benefitted nearly 51,71,286 people. Under the Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme, 125 mobile medical units equipped with doctors, paramedical teams, medical equipment, and medicines provide health facilities to the people in the slum areas. Pathology tests were performed on 13,82,456 people, and free medicines were given to more than 44,42,290 people under the scheme. Similarly, more than 2,802,247 labourers have availed of the free treatment check-up facility.

This scheme is run by the Urban Administration and Development Department, and has organized 68,206 camps to provide treatment in 169 urban bodies of the state. Urban Administration and Development Minister Dr. Shivkumar Dahariya has given instructions to the departmental officers to provide free medicines to the poor people of urban areas and other needy people after their health check-up.

It is worth mentioning that the first phase of this scheme was started on 01 November 2020, with 60 mobile medical units to provide health facilities to the people living in slums in 14 municipal corporation areas of the state. Keeping in view the success of this scheme, the scope of the scheme was expanded to all urban bodies of the state on March 31, 2022, with the addition of 60 new mobile medical units. On July 1, 2023, the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel announced the expansion of five more mobile medical units for the treatment of people in slums. New mobile medical units will be launched soon to provide treatment to more needy people, including those living in slums. The initiative eliminates the need for people to visit hospitals by providing free health screenings, treatment, and medications close to their homes.
