Himachal: Farmers, agriculture experts attended training program on natural farming

Himachal Pradesh: In an effort to promote sustainable agricultural practices, YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni recently organised a three-day training programme on natural farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming. The programme, held at the Directorate of Extension Education, focused on eco-friendly farming techniques for participants from Punjab. This is the second batch of training sessions organised by the Centre for Natural Farming. The programme saw active participation of key stakeholders including officials from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture and Veterinary Department. Additionally, Block Programme Managers (Agricultural Livelihoods) and farmers from across the state also attended the programme.

During the training, resource persons provided comprehensive information about the principles and practices of natural farming. Director of Extension Education Indra Dev emphasised on the importance of adopting sustainable farming practices not only for the benefit of current agricultural practices but also to secure the future of farming for generations to come. The training also included a special session with Shailendra Sharma, a farmer from Solan, in which he explained that adopting these methods has significantly increased his income and improved his farming practices. Vice Chancellor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel also addressed the participants and encouraged the officials to come forward to promote natural farming in their respective posts, which could be started with small initiatives like kitchen gardens.
