Punjab: Old building laws to remain in force till case is pending

Punjab: Days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the provisions of the Punjab Unified Building Rules, 2025, the Punjab Housing Department has clarified that the PUDA Building Rules 2021 will remain in force while the case is pending. In an order issued to the concerned officials, Vikas Garg, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, stated that only those provisions of the 2025 Rules will be applicable that are in accordance with the 2021 norms. The provision for constructing stilt-plus-four structures in new sectors and stilt-plus-three structures in old sectors remains suspended as they were contrary to the 2021 Rules. The order stated, “Notwithstanding any exemptions or provisions in the 2025 Rules, any development activity that violates the 2021 Rules will not be regularized.”
