CMD Balram: SCCL is committed to environmental protection
Kothagudem: SCCL is committed to environment conservation and has so far planted 14,680 hectares of area with five crore saplings, informed company’s Chairman and Managing Director N Balram. He said the company has distributed 2.25 crore saplings free of cost to villagers in Singareni areas and thus has been able to reduce annual carbon emissions by 2.14 million tonnes. Ad Balram planted 235 saplings of different types of fruit trees in the premises of Yellandu bungalows as part of World Environment Day celebrations organised by the Singareni Environment Department on Wednesday. He has planted 17,935 saplings in 16 hectares of area in Singareni areas so far. The CMD also launched a man riding chair lift system at Padmavatikhani underground mine, inaugurated an eco park at GK OC mine dump area where 2000 saplings were planted.
Speaking on the occasion, he said there is an urgent need to protect and preserve the environment. The theme of World Environment Day this year is ‘Soil Restoration, Resilience to Desertification and Drought’, which is being organized by Saudi Arabia. Singareni has become a role model for all companies in India in terms of environmental protection. He said that with the slogan of greenery everywhere, the company is planting trees on a large scale on all the vacant lands and OC overburden dumps. Later Balaram presented the Best Mine Award to JK-5 OC Mine for achieving 5 star rating in terms of water, noise, air pollution control and plantation in the financial year 2022-23. Satyanarayana Rao, Director (E&MD) of the company, said that Singareni has installed a 234.5 MW solar power plant to reduce carbon emissions and connected one billion units of electricity to the grid. Through this, emission of 0.31 million tonnes of greenhouse gases has been prevented.
