Congress announces online crowdfunding campaign

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday announced the launch of an online crowdfunding campaign named ‘Donate for Desh’ from December 18 and said the initiative is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s historic ‘Tilak Swaraj Fund’ in 1920-21.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said, “Today we are announcing an online crowd funding program named ‘Donate for Desh’.”

He said: “This initiative is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s historic ‘Tilak Swaraj Fund’ in 1920-21 and aims to empower our party in building a prosperous India with equitable resource distribution and opportunities.”

“Our inaugural campaign ‘Donate for a Better India’ celebrates the 138-year journey of the Indian National Congress,” Venugopal said.
“Embracing our history, we invite supporters to donate Rs 138 or Rs 1380 or in multiples of Rs 13,800 or more, symbolizing the party’s enduring commitment to a better India,” Venugopal said.

He said that two channels have been created for this online crowdfunding, one through a dedicated online portal: Donateinc.in and the other through the official website of the Indian National Congress: www.inc.in.

Venugopal said the campaign will be officially launched by the Congress president in New Delhi on December 18, with the donation link also going live.

“We call on all state unit heads to raise awareness through press conferences and social media. The campaign will remain primarily online till December 28, Foundation Day, after which we will launch a ground campaign, involving door-to-door visits by volunteers, targeting at least ten households in each booth and at least 138 people from each household. It involves contributing Rs. ,” He said.

He also said that “we encourage our state-level office-bearers, our elected representatives, DCC presidents, PCC presidents and AICC office-bearers to contribute at least Rs 1,380”.

“For effectiveness of the campaign, all state presidents should identify potential donors among the party well-wishers and office-bearers, aiming to contribute Rs 1,380 or Rs 13,800. This strategic approach will ensure the success of our vision for a better India,” Venugopal said.

Venugopal also said that the party is going to hold a huge rally in Nagpur on its foundation day on December 28.

“Tomorrow we have a detailed meeting in Nagpur, and at least 10 lakh workers will participate in this mega event. Venugopal said, leaders from all over India will be part of the rally.

Meanwhile, Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken said that those who want to donate must be Indian citizens and above 18 years of age.

Maken said that donors will also get donation certificates.
