Congress councilor murdered
Bhopal: A councilor was allegedly killed during a clash between BJP and Congress supporters early Friday ahead of voting in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, police said on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Salman Khan, a resident of Manzoor Nagar village in Khajuraho, was crushed by vehicles allegedly belonging to BJP candidate Arvind Pateria and his supporters. At the time of the incident, Congress candidate from Chhatarpur seat Vikram Singh Natiraja was also with the victim.
According to a report, the incident took place in Rajnagar assembly constituency at around 2 am.
According to the police, preliminary investigation has revealed a clash between the two groups, which started after a dispute over giving way during their respective operations.
A verbal altercation between supporters of Congress candidate Nathirajah and supporters of BJP candidate Arvind Patria turned violent when a group allegedly used multiple vehicles to crush a Congress worker, leading to his death.
Allegations have emerged that the attackers specifically targeted Natiraja and Khan, launching the attack by deliberately ramming a vehicle into them and subsequently opening fire in the air. The attack not only took the life of Salman Khan but also left Congress candidate Vikram Singh Natiraja in shock.
Similarly, during voting on Friday morning in Dhimni assembly seat of Morena district, one person was injured after being shot at a polling booth. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is contesting from Dhimni against Congress’s Ravindra Tomar.
In another incident in Harda district, a person reportedly died of electrocution at a polling booth. At the same time, BJP workers attacked Congress supporters with swords in Mhow assembly seat of Indore.
Similarly, in Chhindwara, when MPCC president Kamal Nath’s son and Chhindwara MP Nakul Nath went for inspection at a polling booth on Friday, BJP workers created a ruckus. BJP workers allegedly tried to stop Nakul Nath from entering the polling booth, however, the situation normalized with the intervention of security forces deployed at the polling booth.
