Conrad Sangma: Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra creates ‘huge media buzz’
Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party president Conrad Sangma has said that Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which has passed through several northeastern states, has generated “huge buzz in the media” but the party may not get votes.
“I don’t think they will get the result they want,” he told PTI in an interview.
The energy and resources Congress has put into this yatra “may not translate into actual votes and actual seats,” Sangma said.
The yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, began from Manipur on January 14 and crossed Meghalaya on January 22. It covered five of the eight northeastern states ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in April-May.
Sangma said, “When you do something, whatever energy you put in, obviously it will have some impact in some way or the other. The question is how much impact it will have. The amount of energy that has been put into this journey, Will it have any effect?” Will an equal amount of votes change or come in favor of the Congress party…I doubt it.” “Yes, it is a big media buzz but winning elections is much more than just a journey. Congress has internal, organizational There are a lot of issues and there are a lot of factors that need to be resolved. There is travel going on, and there are a lot more people leaving the party. It is reflecting that there is a concern that they need to address, that They kind of have to get their house in order,” he said.
Congress’s Vincent Pala is the MP from Shillong seat in Meghalaya, while NPP’s Agatha Sangma is the MP from Tura.
This time NPP has announced the candidature of Minister of State Amparain Lyngdoh from Shillong. Agatha Sangma will contest elections again from Tura
Asked if the NPP could win the Shillong seat this time, Sangma said, “We never take elections lightly, we are working very hard. We never take our opponent lightly. It is tough. It’s going to happen, we’ll work hard and people will support us.” The candidate will get an opportunity to represent them in the Lok Sabha.”
