Construction of Jorhat-Majuli bridge will be completed by 2026, Assam CM said
Majuli: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the construction of the Jorhat-Majuli bridge over the Brahmaputra is on track and is expected to be dedicated to the people by April 2026.
Sarma said, “So far 20 percent work of the bridge has been completed. “We hope to complete 35 per cent of the work on the bridge before the rainy season.”
“We also hope to start construction of approach roads on both sides from 2024 at a cost of Rs 400 crore and it will be completed and dedicated to the people by April 2026,” Sarma said.
The Assam Chief Minister on Tuesday inspected the construction work of a bridge on the Brahmaputra river connecting Jorhat to Majuli.
Once functional, the bridge will open a new horizon of communication between the two districts and increase tourist inflow to Satra Nagari, Majuli.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also directed the concerned officials to complete the construction works within the stipulated time.
The CM also attended a joint meeting of BJP, AGP and Gana Shakti members from Majuli to discuss strategies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He also said that there is a need to jointly convey the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s developmental policies to the people.
Talking about women empowerment, Sarma said, “Empowering our women power has been one of our most important commitments to the people of Assam. “Over the last 2.5 years, we have invested approximately Rs 2,100 crore to help 11 lakh women entrepreneurs become loan-eligible.” Under our flagship scheme- AMFIRS.”
The Assam Chief Minister also took stock of the progress of the upgradation works of the 19.457 km long road connecting Majuli and Lakhimpur.
