Country disappointed by America’s veto on Gaza ceasefire proposal

United Nations: After the US vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, several countries expressed disappointment and regret over Washington’s action.

China’s permanent representative to the UN, Zhang Jun, expressed disappointment, saying, “We express great disappointment and regret that the draft has been vetoed by the US,” Xinhua news agency reported.

“The two-month fighting has already caused an unprecedented amount of deaths and destruction, and an immediate ceasefire is the most important condition,” Zhang said.

Riyad H. Mansour, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, said that it is extremely regrettable and devastating that the Council has been prevented from fulfilling its responsibilities.

Mohammed Abushab, Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, expressed deep disappointment at the outcome. However, he said this disappointing result would not stop his country from urging Council members to take action and end the violence in Gaza.

Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, said that “today will become one of the darkest days in the Middle East” as the US once again blocked calls for a ceasefire.

France’s Permanent Representative to the UN Nicolas de Rivière said he voted in favor of the draft resolution, adding that France would remain committed to fully activating the Council on all aspects of the crisis, whether security, humanitarian or political. yes. ,

Ishikane Kimihiro, Japan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, said his delegation voted in favor of the draft because the loss of all civilian lives, whether Palestinian or Israeli, is tragic. He also expressed regret that the text could not be adopted.

On Friday, the UN Security Council voted on a draft resolution prepared by the United Arab Emirates and supported by nearly 100 countries calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with 13 voting in favor, with Britain abstaining. America voted against it.
