Country’s former Home Minister and Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde took a big decision, retired from politics.
Solapur: Former Union Home Minister and senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde on Tuesday announced his retirement from electoral politics. He said that he will not contest the next Lok Sabha elections. In his place, his daughter and MLA Praniti Shinde may be the Congress candidate from Solapur Lok Sabha constituency. Shinde, 83, announced his retirement in Solapur on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media after attending the Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Diwas program in Solapur, Shinde said, “I am publicly saying that Praniti will contest the Lok Sabha elections (Solapur Lok Sabha constituency). I am like a retired person and am trying to help wherever needed.”
Meanwhile, a new discussion has started with the statement of Sushil Kumar Shinde. Because Sushil Kumar Shinde, while retiring from politics, said that Praniti Shinde could be the Congress candidate for Lok Sabha from Solapur.
Shinde is one of the senior most Congress leaders in Maharashtra. He has held many important positions like Union Home Minister, Union Energy Minister, Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha and has also served as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. The three-time MP from Solapur Lok Sabha seat was also the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a short period during January 2003 and November 2004. It is noteworthy that he lost the Lok Sabha elections from this seat in 2014 and 2019.
Shinde started his career as an employee in the sessions court of Solapur around 1957. Later, he joined the Maharashtra Police Force as a constable and got promotion as SI where he served in the state CID (Criminal Investigation Department) for six years. In 1971, he started his political career by joining Congress. His daughter Praniti has been a three-time MLA from Solapur City Assembly constituency.
