Cricketers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar appointed as DSPs.

Patna: Friday marked a historic day for the sports fraternity in Bihar. The Bihar government has appointed international cricketers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary handed over appointment letters to a total of 19 outstanding athletes—including these two cricketers—at a ceremony held at the Urja Auditorium in the capital, Patna. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister remarked that a new chapter of a bright future for athletes in Bihar has begun.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government is making continuous efforts to encourage and honor sporting talent. By appointing athletes to high-ranking government positions, the government has sent a clear message that talent will be respected and incentivized. He emphasized that providing better opportunities for advancement to athletes who excel in their fields is a government priority.

Appointment letters were awarded to high-achieving athletes during this event, which was organized under the ‘Medal Lao, Naukri Pao’ (Bring a Medal, Get a Job) scheme. The Chief Minister expressed pride that, for the first time, athletes have been appointed to a prestigious, high-ranking position like DSP. He noted that this move would infuse new energy and enthusiasm among the state’s young athletes.

Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar have brought glory to Bihar through their achievements in international cricket. Their appointments are seen as a significant step toward honoring sporting talent within the state. The government believes that when successful athletes gain access to better opportunities in government service, it will inspire other young people to pursue careers in sports.

The Chief Minister remarked that there is no shortage of talent in Bihar; what is needed is timely identification and proper training. He stated that the state government is working to expand sports infrastructure, strengthen training systems, and provide both financial and institutional support to athletes.

He announced that a campaign to identify and scout for sporting talent at the Panchayat level would commence on September 15. This initiative aims to bring to light the hidden sporting talent within villages and Panchayats. Selected athletes will be provided with structured training to enable them to excel at both state and national levels. The Chief Minister stated that while there is an abundance of talented athletes in rural areas, their talent often goes unrecognized due to a lack of resources and opportunities. Identifying talent at the panchayat level will ensure they receive superior training and facilities right from the initial stages.

During the event, the Chief Minister mentioned that the Bihar government is implementing various schemes with the welfare of athletes in mind. These schemes aim to provide athletes with a secure future alongside their sporting careers. He emphasized that sports are not merely a medium for competition but also a vital tool for fostering discipline, self-confidence, and leadership qualities.

Sports experts believe that appointing athletes to high-ranking positions, such as DSP, sends a positive message to the youth. It instills confidence in talented athletes that excellence in sports can lead to recognition and employment opportunities. Combining government employment with opportunities for advancement will also strengthen the state’s sports culture.

This government initiative is seen as a step that will chart a new course for sports and athletes in Bihar. Previously, many talented athletes were forced to abandon sports due to financial constraints or limited opportunities. Schemes involving appointments to government services will help athletes focus on their goals.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government aims to establish a new identity for Bihar in the realm of sports. To achieve this, sports activities will be promoted at all levels—from schools to panchayats and the state level. He noted that with better training, modern facilities, and the timely identification of talent, athletes from Bihar can achieve success at national and international levels.

Officials and representatives from the Sports Department present at the event also extended their best wishes to the athletes. They emphasized that the government’s schemes aim not just to provide positions and jobs, but to boost the athletes’ confidence and offer them a secure platform for the future.

The appointment of Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar as DSPs has set a new precedent for honoring sporting talent in Bihar. This government initiative is expected to inspire thousands of young athletes across the state. Furthermore, the upcoming talent search campaign at the panchayat level will provide an opportunity for new sporting talent to emerge.
